Strike No. 3:
Western Sydney Local Pickett Line at Westmead Hospital - 1st September 2022.
For the third time this year, the NSW Nurses and Midwifery Union took further industrial action to push necessary Ratios. Sydney nurses help local pickets for the first time in the city for 24hours.
We ask our patients to trust us when they're vulnerable, and right now I don't feel deserving of that trust.
We are tired, we are chronically understaffed, taken advantage of, lied to, and been told to put up with and normalise unsafe workloads. In ICU, we are asked to team nurse patients that should be 1:1. Patients who are intubated and ventilated, on multiple complex infusions, on dialysis - are grouped with other patients and 'team nursed'. As a result we've had more and more assist calls, self-extubations and line removals including the loss of a dialysis catheter while dialysis was running... its not good enough.
Not until we can get nurse to patient ratios. There’s no other choice. Ratios are a matter of life or death! We need:
1:1 in ICU
1:2 in HDU
1:3 in ED
1:4 in the wards
As we know, responsible courtesy stipulates that guest will bring a gift to a wedding - be it a registry platter or set of steak knives - but the bride and groom will bring themselves - the greatest gift a person can give....

Introducing…the beautiful and talented Frannie-Mae!
Frannie-Mae is a singer/songwriter from Sydneys’ North Shore. With beautiful soulful tones, quirky vocal licks with complete vulnerability in her lyrics. She is honestly raw in her music and makes you feel so many things.

Congratulations Denny + Kris!
So honoured to be there to capture these memories with you and the many surrounding you, who love and adore you
My life as an adventurer...
Like the typical Australian backpacker, we travel.. for long stretches of time, taking in everything we can from the other side of the world - which is every other side of the world. But wherever I am, the ocean stills me and reminds me of home and settling me with the idea that my familiar peeps might be close to that same water. Its an incredible privilege to travel and be welcomed by strangers into their home...
I also spend time travelling around Australia - More recently taking heading up to the Gold Coast and taking a roadtrip (one of my favourite pastimes) down from Sydney to Tasmania (highly recommended). From from the Sea Cliff Bridge at Coalcliff to the most underwhelming 'Big' attraction in Australia, the 'Big Potato'. From the pleasant and quaint town of Tilba to Eden and Paradise Beach at the Lake Entrance. Canberra's executive capital, Forster Wind Farm, Tidal River at Wilsons Promontory National Park, pelican feeding at San Remo and penguin islands at Philips Island. Melbourne's eclectic and exhausting street art, laneways and sites To the fresh food capital of Australia: Launceston, Tasmania and funky town: Hobart.
In 2014 - I spent time backpacking from UK & Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Turkey and Greece. For more photos see:
In 2012, I travelled to the US, spending time with family, from LA to Austin, Texas, to the East Coast - NY, Washington DC, Montreal Canada, Chicago... I've been (not yet) everywhere man...
Featuring all things glorified tourist: LACMA lights, Griffith Observatory and the Original Farmers Market.
15th of February 2022, the Nursing and Midwifery Union of NSW (NSWNMA) went on strike for the first time in almost a decade. Nurses and midwives from approximately 150 different hospitals across NSW walked out despite the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) ordering against industrial action.
For the last 2 years, the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated issues related to safe staffing and healthcare worker burnout. The lack of transparency for conditions, the lack of acknowledgement by the NSW Government mean that nurses are feeling overwhelmed, taken advantage of and forgotten. Frequently called, ‘healthcare heroes’ with compensation in the form of ‘thanks’.
We don’t want thanks. We want safe staffing (1:1 in ICU, 1:2 in HDU, 1:3 in Emergency and 1:4 in the wards). We want a 2.5% pay rise instead of the pay freeze that we got during the pandemic. This is not much to ask for.
This is a photo collection of the Sydney strike action with approximately 5000 in attendance - all unified with the same message: ‘We want to be respected and capable of looking after our patients and right now, we are broken and the hospital system is not coping’.
As a registered nurse and member of the NSWNMA and working in Intensive Care, I feel this burden along with my fellow healthcare workers:

Two Feet Tall are a Sydney based brother and sister duo whose smooth acoustic harmonies will sooth your soul.
Will, Fran and I ventured out into the urban wilderness of Newtown Sydney, Alexandria as well as around the organic greenery of Roseville's parks. Had such a fun time with them - with the rare opportunity to also be serenaded as I shot. These are just some of the moments captured...
